Toward Infinity

behold the eyes of a stranger:
azure turning to golden then to red
as blood’s rushing through the veins
with an ever increasing speed
    toward infinity

that chockfull gazing
as if those eyes have never seen
a tinge of surprise perhaps
what could that mean?
    the horizon has collapsed!

a gentle touch -- utterly hesitant
imagination or a dream?
so vaguely familiar
gaining force and speed
    nails scratch my bloodstained flesh

gasping lungs calm slowly down
wistful sounds of barely audible breath
alas, nothing to break tranquility:
side by side two lifeless bodies rest
    toward infinity
