The Types of Loving Someone

Falling in love with someone is an experience that occurs in most if not every human's life several times during an average lifetime. Even monks, nuns and priests of certain religious denominations, who are the bitterest enemies of bodily lust, may find themselves entrapped by this unique emotional experience time after time -- although, quite often, they live isolated from the opposite sex. Being in love is typical in almost every age in every cultural and educational background. By simply hearing the word "love," everyone knows exactly what we are talking about, and yet, every case is totally different from any other. However, there are two categories that roughly classify this human mystery.

The first group of lovers may consist of anyone from the youngest boys in school who fall in love for the very first time with their new teacher, classmate, or mother to the ninety year old grandpa on his death-bed who dreams a final love-affair with the pretty nurse without ever having it. They are those who are not loved back. The lack of response moves many of them to write poor quality love poems and do all kinds of silly things that they wouldn't do under regular circumstances. This is the reason why at the beach you can see young men standing on their heads in front of sun-bathing beauties. This is why many knights went into battles in the Middle Ages -- into battles that were often led by kings who wanted to conquer new territories only because they wanted to express their love through their victories to their pretty but rigid queens who were forced into marriage by higher political reasons of father kings rather than by love.

Whether there is a little sign of a possible response or not, our heroes want to prove to the lady of their dreams and themselves that they are worth being loved. Without any hesitation, they are willing to become Don Quixotes who want to fight windmills that are seen as giants through the special spectacles of love -- just to qualify for the hands of their Dulcinea. Quite often their efforts are very grotesque to an outsider who may adapt the story for a good television soap opera.

The representatives of the other type are somewhat luckier. They are the Romeos and Juliets who perfectly understand each other. They mutually want a happy blooming of their love in the immediate unification of their flesh and soul -- definitely created by God for this very purpose. No enmity of families or any other earthly reason can loosen their strong emotional bondage. They are instantly happy regardless of any temporal pain of separation by family disputes, studies in different colleges or extended business trips.

Of course, the person who has already won the sympathy of a woman doesn't have to qualify perpetually and desperately for it, rather, he maintains it with small things like, for instance, winning a Marathon Run. For him life is much easier and it would be quite nonsensical to act such a grotesque way as the legendary Spaniard of the first category. Feelings felt by this type wouldn't fit into good adventure stories but they can be the source of highly artistic literature.

Whether a love is mutually experienced by the two persons or not, it has an intrinsic value. Though most of the people would rather choose the second category, it is the first one that may help us better to discover some of our hidden talents and perhaps this is the reason why we like to think back so much on this kind of love. It is also true that without the second type mankind would die out very soon. One thing is sure: both of them can make us very happy. Therefore, instead of analyzing the topic any further, let's enjoy one or the other type.
